The Problem
Manufacturing engineers, procurement teams, and designers waste hours manually estimating production costs for machined parts. Reading technical drawings, calculating material needs, guessing machining time, and accounting for tight tolerances or special surface finishes is slow, error-prone, and delays decision-making. Most quoting tools either require manual data entry or only analyze 3D geometry, ignoring the critical details hidden in the 2D technical drawing.
How the App Helps
CNC Price Estimation Tool Pro automates the entire pre-production quoting workflow. In under a minute, you get a detailed cost breakdown including material, machining time, tooling, setup, and even surcharges for precision features — directly from your CAD model and technical drawing. No spreadsheets. No guesswork. Just upload and know.
Unique Value Proposition
The calculator that reads both your 3D model AND your 2D technical drawing with AI. While standard tools analyze geometry, CNC SmartQuote uses AI-powered OCR to extract tolerances, surface roughness, threads, and GD&T symbols from the PDF drawing. This means your quote reflects the real manufacturing effort — not just the volume of the part.
How the Algorithm Works
1. 3D Geometry Analysis
Drop your .STP or .STEP file. The app analyzes the solid model using OpenCascade.js to extract volume, bounding box dimensions, surface area, face count, and geometric complexity. From this it calculates raw stock size and estimated base machining time.
2. AI Drawing Analysis (OCR)
Upload the technical drawing PDF. A multimodal AI (Gemini) scans the drawing and extracts:
- Dimensional tolerances (e.g., H7, ±0.02)
- Surface roughness requirements (Ra, Rz)
- Thread specifications (metric, UNC, etc.)
- GD&T symbols (flatness, perpendicularity, position, etc.)
3. Technology & Material Matching
Select the manufacturing process — Turning, Milling, Laser Cutting, or Laser Cutting + Bending — and the material. The algorithm applies machinability factors, regional price multipliers, and density data to compute precise material costs and stock requirements.
4. Feature-Based Time Surcharges
Each special feature detected in the PDF adds realistic machining minutes: tight tolerances require slower feeds, fine surface roughness needs additional finishing passes, threads need tapping cycles, and strict GD&T demands measurement and setup time.
5. Calibration & Final Calculation
If calibration data exists for a given technology-material pair, the algorithm applies learned correction curves to improve accuracy. The final output includes:
- Material cost & stock mass
- Machining time & CNC cost
- Setup cost & tooling cost
- Markup, quantity multiplier, and 30% deposit summary
6. One-Click Inquiry
Export the full report or send an inquiry email with the complete summary — ready to forward to your production partner.
